Why Djs Are Adding Vinyl to Their Mixes

Blog

The old song about asking a DJ to put another record on probably stumps today's kids, but anyone over forty knows what a record is. Surprisingly, hipsters and younger generations are starting to gravitate toward vinyl, considering it a "cool" new thing, a trend to follow. As you search through several DJs to hire for your next event, and then proceed to interview them, do not be surprised to find that DJs are adding vinyl to their music mix. Here is why.

It Shows Skill as a DJ

Young DJs who can spin vinyl on a turntable have a skill the others do not. It shows that the DJ knows what a record is, how to play it, and how to use it in popular mixes. For really old songs that may only exist on vinyl, or for customers who want a special song on a record they provide themselves, a DJ who can play that for them is more meaningful.

It Reveals Versatility

There are MP3s, CDs, satellite music streaming, and records. There are also eight track cassettes and tapes. A DJ that can, and will, play all of the above has versatility in this industry. He or she can promote that versatility in an interview with clients who want to know more about his/her personal DJ style.

It Is a Way of Connecting to Popular Trends in Music

To be a DJ "in the know" is to be a DJ that knows everything that there is to know about music. That includes the trends in music. Since a current trend is the popular return of music on vinyl, it is important to a DJ to know all that there is to know about this music format. Today's records are even better than the ones from years ago; the sound quality is better, the recording to vinyl is better, and the vinyl lasts longer with lesser damage. Ergo, a DJ would want to incorporate some of this "modern music format" into his or her repertoire.

Because You Should Always Give the Clients What They Want

Older clients want DJs to play vinyl. Younger clients want to add a retro feel to a party, so they want vinyl too. DJs want to please their clients to get more clients, so the best way to do that is to give the first clients what they want. What they want is spinning vinyl.
